Client: Unity Partnership (Mouchel) – Royton & Crompton Refurbishment

The site is located two miles from the town centre of Oldham.

The school is a secondary modern, with over 1000 pupils attending from a diverse population.

The building consists of modern and old, solid and prefabricated structures.

The project was for the construction with contractors design element (to the mechanical and electrical elements) for the internal refurbishment and remodelling of 2 teaching blocks.

The works consisted of the demolition of the existing partition walls and the reconstruction of new stud and plasterboard walls, suspended ceilings, vinyl and carpet flooring, sanitary fittings and cubicles, hot and cold water supplies and redecorations, new modular lighting and power circuits and new heating systems to include contractors design element to promote sustainable intentions of the building.

The scheme had to be completed within the summer break as it affected 60% of the classrooms needed for the new school term.  A programme was drawn up, which meant longer working days and weekend working to turn around the project within the timescales.

Working closely with the designers, clients and subcontractors and holding regular progress meetings, the scheme was a success.  The project was finished on schedule and on budget.

We are in the process of tendering for Phase II, which takes place this summer.
